Yesterday I made an apple pie using 3 lbs (about 8 medium-size Granny Smith apples). And even with 1-cup combined brown and granulated sugar, it was too tart and tangy for my liking. But Granny Smith Apples are said to be the apple of choice and popular among apple pie lovers. I prefer McIntosh apples for pie!
Use your favorite pie crust, enough for the bottom and top. Fill with your favorite apple pie filling. Bake at 425 degrees for fifteen minutes, reduce heat to 350 degrees for thirty-five to forty-five minutes. To prevent pie edges from burning, line with aluminum foil. Test apples with a fork to see if the apples are cooked through. Adjust the length of cooking time to your own oven. Don’t put it in the oven and forget about it, if your oven is off, you could undercook crust or overcook it.
