Valentine’s Day – Chocolate, Flowers, or a Romantic meal?

Happy Valentine’s Day!

To all the Ladies out there, tell me…

Do you prefer chocolate, flowers, or a romantic meal? While you mull that question over, I have a romantic tale to tell about my husband; then you can comment below. No worries, this is PG!

My husband, Dave, spent his life in the military, a career man. He was in the USN, on ships, because of this, there were many years we did not get to celebrate holidays and events together, e.g., Valentine’s Day.

Hubby also has allergies, so through the years I never received flowers from him. Not while he was in port anyway– those of you who have allergies know– sneeze, Ah-AhHACHOO, and all that around flowers, cat dander, dust, perfumes, etc., One year long ago, I received flowers while Dave was out at sea, a Dozen Red Roses!  I nearly cried when I opened the box from the florist, as inside with Dave’s handwriting was a little note professing his love for me and a reminder of the first day we met. That by the way– was many, many, many moons ago when I was just fifteen years old. It has probably been thirty + years now, or longer, since I received those flowers–but I never forgot how special that gift was; not because of the gift, (though I do love flowers), but because my husband remembered “the day that we met!”

Valentine’s Day for me, is not about the chocolate, flowers, or the romantic meal, all those kinds of things many people associate with Valentine’s Day (And you all know how I love my chocolate!). It is about the simplicity of love, the thoughtfulness of someone who makes that day special!

Enjoy yours!
