AYUH, ANOTHER DOWNEAST COOKBOOK: RECIPES FROM MAINE BY VIRGINIA WRIGHT IS CHOCK-FULL OF GAME, FISH & SEAFOOD RECIPES.
Many years ago, the wild game provided meat for my families table. Living in Maine, my father was a hunter. He got his fair share of deer each season. Hunting for small game birds and animals such as partridge and rabbit was also something my father did. He loved going fishing for bass and brook trout, too. Also, when he hit the tides just right, he would load the car up with his hip boots, grab the clam hoe and roller, and hit the clam flats for a mess of clams. This is not just how our family got their food and ate, for many generations, people from Maine have hunted and fished here. Lakes in Maine flourish with abundant fish, wild game from deer to bear, and moose are found in the wilderness here. Trapping beaver and muskrat is something some of the most rugged Mainers attempt, including my father-in-law. Today, hunting, fishing, lobstering, and clamming, still plays a significant role in the state–it is the Maine way.
Ayuh, Another Downeast Cookbook: Recipes From Maine will bring you delicious and unique recipes with every page you turn, including– Venison Jerky, Coon Cacciatore, Swiss Moose Steak, Smothered Muskrat, Chestnut Stuffing n’ Partridge, Lobster casserole, and more.
Happy Cooking!
