Virginia Wright Artwork In Upcoming Dennis Higgins Time-Travel Book

Dennis Higgins author of Steampunk Alice is a master in imaginative, time-travel writing. I am truly honored to be part of his upcoming release, book 2 in the Steampunk Alice adventures, through my illustrations. Right now, book 2 is in the hands of his editor, and released soon in a full color version.

I am the original cover and contributing artist for Steampunk Alice. The cover won best cover (Gold) in the 2014 AuthorDB contest. In 2017, I created the Steampunk Alice coloring book.

About the author

Award winning author, Dennis Higgins. Relative of Davy Crockett…World traveler. As a native of Chicago, Illinois, I have always possessed a romance with things of the past that are gone but not forgotten. I now live in the suburbs with my lovely wife, our dog and a couple of birds. Among my influences are: Richard Matheson, Jack Finney, Dean Koontz, Peter S. Beagle and Audrey Neffenegger . The Cover I Illustrated “Steampunk Alice” by Dennis Higgins Brought Home the Gold

Gold Winner_Book Cover Finalist 2014 Authorsdb

Steampunk Alice, written by Dennis Higgins,  and illustrated by me (Virginia Wright), won the Gold in the Authorsdb 2014 Cover Contest. I’m so excited, I just  had to blog about it!!!! 

When I first began illustrating, it was only for my own books: Buzzzzzzzz What Honeybees Do, Crying Bear, The Princess and the Castle, The Prince and the Dragon, The Christmas Secret, and my latest release: Wild Animal Sounds. 

Then, I met Dennis Higgins, and eventually he told me about a book he was writing (Steampunk Alice), and asked me if I would consider doing some art for it. I hesitated, but asked him to give me a brief description of what he envisioned his character, Steampunk Alice, would look like. I set my WIP aside, and began working on Alice. He liked it, and from that point on, I worked for a number of months on the cover, that Dennis also liked, and chose to use. And, I also did a a few of the book illustrations. 

The cover was entered in the 2014 Authorsdb Cover Contest, and brought home the Gold. For someone who had never gone to an art school, and didn’t start illustrating until late in life,  and never illustrated for anyone other than herself (until now), I can tell you that I am more than elated!!!

Steampunk Alice is a GREAT ‘Time-Travel’ book.  I am extremely proud that the cover brought home the Gold for the author, Dennis Higgins. Thanks go out to: the voters,  and Authorsdb. 

A special goes out to Dennis Higgins.  Thanks for believing in me, brother, as an author, artist, and for submitting the cover into the contest. Yippee! We brought home the (Gold).

I am currently working on my next writing and illustrating project, an adorable children’s Christmas book that is slated for release Fall 2015, titled: Timothy the Christmas Mouse. 

Lastly, I am also going to work on something that is not my usual genre…. Stay tuned. :-)

Indie and Proud …. Dennis Higgins

I met Author Dennis Higgins a couple of years ago online at one of the popular social media sites. We soon found out we had a few things in common besides writing. Both our sisters passed too soon, and we immediately adopted one another as virtual siblings. 

Some years before this I met another Author, Launa McNeilly, we adopted one another as sisters. I am extremely grateful that I have gained such valuable relationships along my writing journey. 

There are other friends that I have met online, that it seems as if we have known each other for years–they know who they are.  

Now, more about this great Time-Travel writer….

Dennis Higgins is a distant relative of Davy Crockett, is a world traveler and native of Chicago, Illinois.  He says that he has  always possessed a romance with things of the past that are gone but not forgotten.  He now lives in the suburbs with his lovely wife, one dog and a couple of birds.

The cover that I illustrated for Dennis Higgins book, Steampunk Alice, just made finals at Authorsdb.com’s 2014 Cover Contest. Excited! Excited, both for the author, Dennis Higgins, and for myself as an illustrator of the cover.

Before now, I only illustrated my own books, however, a few months back, I received a request from a brilliant Time Travel writer, Dennis Higgins, asking if I would do some illustrating for his book, “Steampunk Alice.” I jumped at the challenge.
