ANNOUNCEMENT: Children’s Book Promotion Party, October 11th, 2017

I’m excited to be part of the October 11th Children’s Book Promotion. On party day, there will be a lot of discounted and free books available from various authors here. I will introduce everyone to Timothy the Christmas Mouse by way of a “FREE” eBook which you will be able to get here on the day of the event (https://www.amazon.com/Timothy-Christmas-Mouse-Virginia-Wright-ebook/dp/B01858V55M). Timothy the Christmas Mouse is now available in paperback and due to popular demand, an adorably illustrated coloring book companion was created. I hope you like the eBook so much you want to buy the storybook in paperback and the coloring book. I want to make note that the eBook does not do the paperback justice. The paperback is so adorable…it is one of my favorite writing and illustration projects that I have done to date. The coloring book makes for a great Christmas Eve coloring book for kids. The story is a nice children’s story before going off to sleep in anticipation of Christmas morning.
:-) See you at the party!

World Read Aloud Day February 24, 2016

Virginia Brown_Virginia Dutch2In honor of World Read Aloud Day, I thought I would share a photo of my grandmother reading The Night Before Christmas to me.  From a young girl, I wanted to be a writer.  But, I never imagined back then, one day that I would grow up and write my own Christmas book. Goosies!

Reading is extremely important, not only for pleasure but for developing skills needed in everyday life. When reading aloud, you can put so much expression in the voice as the story unfolds. Children love being read to and when they can read, they love reading to others.

In 1998, while I was teaching at St. John’s Preschool and Kindergarten in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, I  implemented a reading program in my class that I penned, Book-A-Day.  This would help promote children’s reading literacy in my classroom and to get young children interested in reading every day.  I found that young children had much more interest in story time when it was made part of a daily schedule.  Instead of my students just bringing in a book on Show & Tell Day, every day of the school week, children took turns bringing in a book. It was an easy plan to establish… because I simply asked the child who had the turn to bring in the snack of the day– to also bring in a book.  I found that the interest was two-fold in story time, and while teaching for three years at St. John’s,  I kept  the Book-A-Day program in place, in my classroom. Book-A-Day is a reading literacy awareness effort that I hope to make every preschool and kindergarten class aware of.
Now go read!

Take 175 years of a small village, throw in some anecdotes, pictures, maps, aerials, and newspaper articles, and you will see what compiler and editor Marion L. Cornett comes up for two local history books. The Fowlerville Chronicles has actually sold out–more may be printed so be sure to check back. Through the Eyes of a Country Editor helps to tell the history of Fowlerville from 1874-1929, through the wit and wisdom of G.L. Adams, editor and publisher of The Fowlerville Review.

My passion is history during the early 1900s and doing research to gain more insight and knowledge prompted me to compile these two self-published books. And now, I’m onto more writing, with the recently-released Juniper and Anise, a fictional story based on events that took place during the United States’ Prohibition Era. I’m working on a companion novel set during the same time period.

When I’m not writing, my day job is commercial embroidery, which I’ve done for nearly 20 years. Love to read, write, exercise, socialize, and be a part of the internet social media.

Born to be creative, loves to write–that’s my motto.

Book Release: Timothy the Christmas Mouse Storybook & Coloring Book

Cover_13_ 8.76x9.00Hi Everyone, If you have been following my posts on Facebook & Twitter, you know I teased my way to the final cover reveal in 4 parts. I hope you had fun as I played this little cover game. If you have not seen the cover, I am posting here in the blog.

This has been one of my favorite writing projects so far. I love the story and I worked on creating the illustrations for three years, on and off that is. You see, I am a multi-tasker– so in between that time, I also created Wild Animal Sounds, and I worked on the cover illustration for Steampunk Alice by Dennis Higgins. Dennis is  a talented author friend of mine, and he suggested that I create a coloring book to go along with the storybook. I didn’t think I could pull it off in time to have a release of the storybook  and coloring book at the same time.
I worked hard and guess what? I did it! Yay! Thank you, Dennis!

Front cover 17 8.27x10.50

Today I am also doing a cover reveal of the Timothy the Christmas Mouse Coloring Book. I am excited at how this book turned out. Yes, that is a toilet paper roll…don’t laugh, okay go ahead, it was meant to make you. It would be a nice warm place for a mouse, don’t you think?

Coming soon!
