Week 6 Winners of – Seven Weeks to Christmas Author Interviews & Giveaways

Hi everyone! Before I get to who won the giveaways week 6, I want to thank all the viewers of my blog for visiting each week to read the interviews that I’ve done with authors and illustrators. It has been such fun coordinating the interviews and giveaways with the authors, and interacting with the viewers!  The authors have all been so generous giving out their books to viewers of my blog, I’m sending out a big thank you!

The reasoning behind this event was a way to give back to viewers of my blog with a giveaway, and also to introduce readers to many different genres of writing. My interviews won’t stop at this event, the second week in January, I will pick back up interviewing authors and having book giveaways but not as frequently as in this event. However, the first authors I will be introducing to you in 2013 are Joe McCarthy, and author/illustrator Tracy Campbell, and author/illustrator Jodi Desautels.

Sunday, December 16th is my BIG RELEASE PARTY for my newest book, The Christmas Secret. All you have to do is stop by, bring your coffee or tea, you can come as you are…and sit a spell and read my blog post. I’m going to ask everyone to comment in a specific way that day in the spirit of Christmas. Then, from the commenters I will be giving away to (one) person a signed copy of The Christmas Secret and there is no better way to read a book, than to read a book while eating chocolate! Therefore, I’m including a bar of my favorite Organic chocolate when I send your book.

The Grand Prize Winner will win this:

The Christmas Secret

A copy of The Christmas Secret  by Virginia Wright (me), a $25 gift certificate to Amazon.com to buy whatever you wish, and two Merck Family’s Old World Christmas Ornaments. The reason I have chosen these two Christmas ornaments will remain clear after you read the story. It is a $75 value swag pack that I’m giving away. I will send it out Priority mail so that you will receive it by Christmas.

Old World Christmas Ornaments are my favorite type ornaments, they are simply beautiful. They glisten in the boughs of he Christmas tree among the lights.  Cindy, an old friend of mine, many years ago gave me an Old World Christmas ornament (actually she gave me a few different OWC) and I have been very fond of this particular style ornament ever since, and just bought myself three different ones this year. It reminds me of the type of ornaments we would have put on my tree as a little girl.

Each glass ornament produced for The Merck Family’s Old World Christmas is hand crafted in age-old tradition using the same techniques that originated in the 1800’s.

1. What led you to become an author? The idea of me becoming an author stemmed from a conversation I had with a co-worker who had published a novel.  As we talked I became more preoccupied with the ideal of writing and realized that I had several ideas in my head that would make wonderful stories.  I found writing as a way of releasing those inner thoughts and turn them into a positive message.

2. What genre do you write? I write fiction but I lean more toward Christian fiction.  At this point I have kept my books clean, with a little violence to make them entertaining and suspenseful.

3. When you write, do you prefer silence or do you like to listen to music or the television? I like to have the television on with the volume very low. I usually have some kind of ballgame on, preferably baseball because it is very slow paced and the announcers stay calm most of the time.

4. Do you have a particular place you prefer to write? I prefer to write in my bedroom because that is where my television is located and it is quiet most of the time.

5. How long did it take you to write your first book?  I wrote the first book in about three months.6. Where do you get your inspirations from to write?  Some from life experiences, hearing people around me talk about the issues they are facing as well as their concerns but most come from the news media.

7. Can you describe the feeling you had when you held your first published book? I was proud of the book.  I stared at it for several minutes in disbelief at what I had accomplished.  There was also relief that the journey I had taken was finely over.8. What book at you currently working on?   I’m working on a medical murder mystery titled Intravenous. The process with this book has been long but if we stay on track it should be released in early 2013.9. Please give us a brief synopsis of your newest WIP.

Synopsis of Intravenous

When a patient at Westbrook Medical Center died from mysterious causes, Ted Maxwell, Patient Safety Officer, is called to investigate the cause of death.  As he examines the body, he discovers an irregularity with the patient’s IV which could indicate foul play. While looking into the case another patient dies mysteriously, leading Ted to suspect that someone is targeting Westbrook’s patients. As the investigation continued, Hanna Johns, Chief Nursing Officer, approaches Ted and cautions him to keep the murders quiet in hopes of saving the hospital’s image.  However, with the murders continuing to rise, Ted had to invoke the help of his friend, Detective Mark Stone from the Westbrook Police Department and ignore the request from the hospital’s administrative staff. With each clue, Ted becomes more concerned because they suggest that someone in the hospital is involved with the murders. After going over each murder, Ted discovers a pattern in the killings and he and Mark sat a trap.10. Where can people find your books?  They can be found at almost any on line book store such as Amazon, Books A Million, Barnes and Noble.  At this point they are not being sold in any stores.

Bio

Joseph J Landers was born in 1962 in rural Alabama.  He’s married with 4 kids.  While pursuing his nursing degree, he studied English composition and American literature.  After several years of nursing, his interest in writing continued to grow and he began to focus his attention toward developing good clean novels.  He has two published books, Our Deadly Sins and Drug Revenge.

Thanks Joe for being guest author today!

***********************************************************************************

Catherine Wolffe enjoys writing romance. She loves experimenting with the genres and her latest book reflects a blending of the traditional western romance with paranormal elements. Dabbling in time travel, fantasy, as well as the paranormal, she mixes elements of the other-worldly with solid historical figures. Showcasing cowboys, Indians, strong-willed women and steamy romance is her passion. In her romances, her heroines have a mind of their own, while her heroes have hearts of gold. All her characters follow their dreams, because without them, there wouldn’t be a story. Her latest release, The Lady in the Mist, The Western Werewolf Legend is available at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Sony, I Tunes and Smashwords.com.  A free excerpt of The Lady in the Mist is available as well. The Western Werewolf Legend will continue with the release of Waking up Dead in the spring of 2013.

1.)  What led you to become an author?

Life is full of changes; it’s a constant we all deal with.  So, when I lost my 9 to 5 job seven years ago, I decided to go into business for myself.  Tired of answering to someone else, I wanted to be my own boss.  Out of that experience, I came to understand I had the power to do anything I set my mind to do.  I’ve always been an avid reader and in a conversation with my sister, we weighed the question of how hard could it be to write your own novel?  What a revelation the answer turned out to be!  Another constant in life is that you’re always learning.  So the journey continues as seven years later and three books published, I find myself exploring the possibilities of writing every day.

2.)          What genre do you write?

You’re taught to write about the things you love as well as those that interest you.  I gained my love for westerns and the old west from my mom who used to go to the theater on Saturdays with her dad and watch Rory Rogers and Dale Evans get the bad guys.  I also love a good scare, so I combine the two for a romantic “get the bad guy story”.

3.)     When you write, do you prefer silence or do you like to listen to music or the television?

Since writing is such an escape for me, I enjoy the quiet when I write.  The characters in my head do not like having to talk over the TV.

4.)     Do you have a particular place you prefer to write?

I have an office on the second floor of my home however my cats think my laptop is a heating pad, so I set up my writing world in the corner of my bedroom on a TV tray.

5.)      How long did it take you to write your first book?

(Insert laughter here)  I think I’m going to write about the writing of Comanche Haven sometime in the future because it’s a whole story unto itself.  So much happened during the first book’s journey, from the writer learning how to write, to rewrites, to distractions/family life, to more rewrites, to finally winning a contest, to edits on top of edits, to finally seeing Comanche Haven in print and soon to be out in paperback.  (insert a sigh here)  The novel is epic for that reason alone!

6.)         Where do you get your inspirations from to write?

Everywhere!  I love watching people in everyday life.  So much is learned by absorbing from one’s surroundings.  Plus, I do a lot of brainstorming with my sister, who’s also an author.  She is so important to my work, I feel like we are a team.

7.)          What book are you currently working on?

The Lady in the Mist, The Western Werewolf Legend.

8.)  Please give us a brief synopsis of your newest WIP.

Waking Up Dead, the second installment in the Western Werewolf Legend series, continues the story of Sonja and Ty as they discover the secrets to their special gifts.  Struggling to outwit the vampires who want to annihilate Sonja and Ty, the couple explore their new werewolf powers in ways they never imagined.  Sonja comes face to face with a shocking discovery from her past, while Ty faces the most difficult decision of his life.  Follow their journey as they seek to discover the answer to the question – “What does one do when one discovers they’re a werewolf in love?”

9.)       Where can people find your books?

All my books are available at Amazon  http://tinyurl.com/9ff6h4j

Smashwords https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/181516

as well as Barnes & Noble, Apple and Sony.

Now to the questions Alex wanted us to answer…
and don’t forget to hop on over to someone else’s blog on the list below, after you leave mine.
My favorite genre of movies: Romance –  My favorite movies of all are comedic romance and second would be western romances.
Favorite genre music: Country – Country music is definitely my favorite genre of music. I always feel that the words in country music hit home.
Favorite book genre: Romance – Romance novels of course! When I want to step-away from reality a little bit, romance novels are definitely a pleasure.
Guilty pleasure: Hmm! I’m not telling!!! Tee-Hee! My downfall is sweets…especially chocolate. For me sitting down with a couple of candy bars and a good romance novel or movie is the ultimate in guilty pleasure!
What’s yours?  Let me hear below favorite movie, music, book, and guilty pleasure genre.
Now start commenting!
